Hotel Bad Schörgau
Contemporary Alpine wellness retreat — natural larch wood, porphyry stone, clean lines, no clutter. Warm but minimal. The architecture has won multiple awards for blending the historical bathhouse tradition with modern Alpine design.
The Day Spa (€120/person) is open to non-guests and includes the farmers' spa, sauna, wooden tub, pool, and one treatment. Worth booking for a day visit.
Why It Matters
One of very few hotels in the Alps that takes hydrotherapy seriously as a medical concept — the spa director trained at a private Lugano clinic and under Henry Chenot at Merano. The restaurant Alpes Experience 1988, led by Matthias Kirchler, holds a Michelin recognition. The property is also in Tablet Hotels and Healing Hotels of the World.
Bad Schörgau is a 22-room wellness and health retreat in the Sarntal Valley of South Tyrol, built on the grounds of a farmhouse spa first documented in 1533. The Wenter family has run it since 1975, with Gregor now at the helm. The whole place revolves around hydrotherapy using their own spring water, paired with serious food in two distinct restaurant formats — one casual, one fine-dining.
