Why It Matters
The oldest hotel at Pointe du Bout and arguably still the most atmospheric. The over-water Coco Bar is an island institution and unique in Martinique. The hotel has hosted generations of French celebrities, politicians, and honeymooners since 1965. Its spot overlooking the Flamands Bay — a member of the 'Most Beautiful Bays in the World' club — is genuinely earned.
Hotel Bakoua is the original hotel at Pointe du Bout — opened in 1965, built on the foundations of an old colonial family home once connected to the French East India Company. It sits at the tip of a peninsula on Martinique's west coast, looking directly across the Bay of Flamands toward the lights of Fort-de-France and the silhouette of the Pitons du Carbet mountains. The setting is genuinely hard to argue with. What you get is a 4-star, 138-room property dripping in colonial Caribbean character: Creole-style architecture spread across a hillside, a sky-blue infinity pool at the top, white sand beach at the bottom, and the iconic Coco Bar — a circular bar on stilts over the water, shaped like a traditional bakoua straw hat, which is quite literally unlike anything else in Martinique. The rooms are aged and showing their years, but the staff is warm, the grounds are lush, and the bay views are real.

The flagship suite, named in homage to Empress Joséphine Bonaparte who was born in Trois-Îlets. Mahogany furniture paired with blue tones referencing the colonial era, with a separate Jacuzzi bathtub and shower, private entrance, and direct beach access. The most desirable option for honeymooners.
