Why It Matters
A Michelin-recognized Relais & Châteaux property on the literary site of Balzac's last home, completely reimagined in 2024. The only hotel on this block of the 8th arrondissement with a Japanese spa and indoor plunge pool. Two top-floor suites have private terraces with unobstructed Eiffel Tower views. Adjacent (but separate) to Pierre Gagnaire's three-Michelin-starred restaurant.
Hôtel Balzac sits on the exact site where the writer Honoré de Balzac spent his final years with Madame Hanska on a quiet street one block from the Champs-Élysées. Reopened in June 2024 after a full gut renovation by design duo Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay of Festen Architecture, the 8-story property now runs 58 rooms and suites across eight categories. Think warm neutrals — browns, cognac, camel — custom-made furniture with a 1930s nod, marble mosaic bathrooms, and Diptyque toiletries throughout. Downstairs, the Japanese-inspired Spa Ikoi sits one level below the glass-roofed lounge, which doubles as the neighborhood's most elegant coffee stop.

The entry-level room at Balzac — but don't let that fool you. At 20 sqm, these are compact but genuinely cozy, adorned with fine woodwork or moiré fabric. Located on floors 1–4 with views onto Rue Balzac or Rue Lord Byron. Marble mosaic bathrooms with shower (no bathtub). Can connect to a Deluxe Room or Junior Suite, making them useful for families.

A step up in space (26–30 sqm) with a sofa or two armchairs — the first room tier that actually feels like you can stretch out. Bathtub or shower; some with wood panelling.

The name is exactly what it says: 46–52 sqm suites on the 5th floor looking over the Parisian rooftops straight at the Eiffel Tower. Two of these suites also have a small balcony. A sofa bed in the living room makes them comfortable for three adults or a couple with two kids. Marble bathrooms with either a bathtub or shower.

At 32–40 sqm, the Junior Suite is the first category with a proper sitting area and a velvet sofa bed for a third guest. The largest and most impressive suite in the building at 106 sqm. Two separate king bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, flank a long corridor that leads to a large wood-panelled living room extending onto a 10 sqm terrace facing the Eiffel Tower and overlooking Rue Lord Byron and the Champs-Élysées. The two bedrooms overlook the courtyard and rooftops, keeping them quieter. Accommodates four guests — genuinely good value split between two couples.

Clefs d'Or concierge service available for arranging bespoke Paris experiences including cultural visits, restaurant reservations, and excursions. The hotel has referenced excursions to sites such as Villa Savoye in Poissy (Le Corbusier's 1931 modernist masterpiece).
For guests staying 3+ nights, the hotel arranges a 3-hour private session with a personal stylist inside the exclusive Appartement de La Samaritaine. Transfer to and from La Samaritaine is included. Requires reservation at least one week before the appointment. This is a genuine curated experience, not a generic shop-around.
The spa's wet facilities — indoor plunge pool, sauna, and wood-clad fitness room with leather-bound weights — are available to hotel guests from 7:00 to 22:00. The fitness room is genuinely well-equipped and considerably more attractive than the average hotel gym.
