Why It Matters
Rare combination: a ski-focused 4-star superior with a Michelin-starred restaurant (Austria Stuben, 1 star, 4 Gault Millau toques) accessible through an underground tunnel, plus a 600m² shared spa. The Steiner family has built one of the most respected dining-and-lodging combos in the Austrian Alps. Head Sommelier Maximilian Steiner was named Austria's Best Sommelier 2023.
Hotel Bellevue sits just above the centre of Obergurgl at 1,930 metres, run by three generations of the Steiner family. It's a 4-star superior property with 48 rooms across six floors, connected via a heated underground tunnel to its sister hotel, the Gourmet & Wine Hotel Austria — meaning guests get access to a Michelin-starred restaurant without stepping outside. Skiing is the primary reason people come here (112km of pistes guaranteed from November to late April), but the summer hiking and via ferrata scene is genuinely good too.

The rocky mountainside via ferrata routes around Obergurgl are a genuine highlight of the summer season. Challenging, technical, and rewarding with exceptional high-alpine scenery.

Obergurgl floodlights the 8km blue piste No. 6 every Monday evening. Hochgurgl offers night skiing every Thursday. One of the better resort perks in the area.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the nearest ski lift, close to a ski run leading to the Hohe Mut gondola. The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski area has 112km of pistes across 25 modern lifts with virtually no queues. Snow is guaranteed mid-November to late April. The area reaches 3,080m at the top.
Hosted every Tuesday at the connected Hotel Austria. Features 8 wines from the Tyrol region — typically four red and four white. Led by Maximilian Steiner, named Austria's Best Sommelier 2023. Pre-bookable.
