Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate
Historic-meets-minimalist Japanese luxury. Think polished European consulate architecture on the outside, MOLTENI and DUXIANA furnishings on the inside — all of it quiet, private, and unhurried. The staff-to-guest ratio is extremely high given only six rooms exist.
Book the Dawn Market excursion (THE HAKODATE) if staying two nights — the seafood selected at 6am auction becomes your custom breakfast back at the hotel
Why It Matters
The only hotel in Japan set inside a preserved Imperial Russian Consulate building. Six suites total, every one with a private Finnish HUUM dry sauna. Relais & Châteaux member with a Michelin-noted French restaurant on site. It genuinely cannot be replicated anywhere else in the country.
Hotel Biaclyn Hakodate is six suites inside a restored 1908 Russian Imperial Consulate — the only surviving building of its kind in Japan. The original redbrick Consulate Wing holds two suites with crystal chandeliers and a monumental dark-wood staircase; a sleek new Wellness Wing adds four more, wrapped around a 200-year-old elm tree. Every room has a private sauna. There are three dining venues, a shared wellness space with jacuzzi and plunge pool, and a program of private excursions across southern Hokkaido. It opened in July 2025 and joined Relais & Châteaux at launch.
