Hotel Christiania Teater
Theatrical and artsy, with a mix of vintage drama and modern Scandinavian comfort. Rooms are individually decorated — think velvet headboards, quirky animal portraits, chandelier lighting, and wall art by interior designer Gathe Gram. Playful rather than stuffy.

Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in Europe where you can walk downstairs from your room and catch a live theater show. The building itself is a protected heritage landmark with a story that spans Norwegian opera history, Nazi occupation, and postwar cultural revival. Restaurant Teatro holds a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence with ~1,400 bottles on the list.
Hotel Christiania Teater opened as Opera Comique in 1918 — a Nordic Neo-Renaissance building on Stortingsgata where Kirsten Flagstad began her career. It's been an opera house, casino revue theater, Nazi propaganda cinema, home to Det Norske Teateret, and a multiplex. Today it's a 112-room boutique hotel with a working theater still hosting shows on the ground floor. The building has been on Norway's National Register of Historic Places since 2015, and a major renovation wrapped in 2024.
