Hotel Claude Marbella
Intimate Andalusian townhouse. Art-forward, historically layered, and genuinely boutique — no lobby crowds, no anonymous corridors. Each room is themed on a different province of Andalusia, with custom furniture and local craft throughout. The marble patio and rooftop terrace are the social heart of the place.
Breakfast on the rooftop San Lucas Terrace is the highlight — order from the à la carte menu and eat above the Old Town rooftops
Why It Matters
Considered the first boutique hotel in Marbella. The building dates to 1650 and has been carefully restored twice — most recently in 2020 — preserving original 17th-century details alongside contemporary design. It's a member of both Historic Hotels Worldwide (since 2022) and Tablet Hotels. Seven rooms only, with a rooftop that doubles as a breakfast spot and evening dining venue.
Seven rooms. One suite. A 17th-century manor house in Marbella's Old Town that was once the summer residence of Empress Eugénie de Montijo and later the home of French opera singer Claude Devoize. The Costa del Sol is full of tower-block hotels crammed into overdeveloped coastline — this is the opposite of that. It's small, deeply considered, and full of original artwork made specifically for the building.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The front desk can organise access to a local beach club — the hotel is a 5-minute walk from the beach.
Bike rentals and biking tours of the area available — the Old Town and surrounding Marbella lend themselves well to this.
The hotel can organise guided hikes in the surrounding Andalusian countryside through the concierge.
Cooking classes available for guests — consistent with the hotel's focus on showcasing authentic Andalusian food and culture.
The hotel hosts live cultural performances on site — fitting given the building's past as a gathering place for opera, music, and literary events when French opera singer Claude Devoize owned it.
The concierge arranges private tours across the region — from Marbella Old Town to wider Andalusia.
The hotel hosts rotating temporary art exhibitions — an eclectic art collection is displayed throughout the hotel, particularly in the library lounge.
The hotel can organise wine tasting experiences in nearby Ronda — a day trip that pairs well with the region's food culture.
