Hotel Daphne
Artistic and bohemian, but grounded. Think well-curated collector's home meets Italian aperitivo bar — warm, layered, and a little psychedelic in the best way. The public spaces feel like a neighborhood living room, not a hotel lobby.

Why It Matters
First design-driven boutique hotel in Houston Heights. Bunkhouse is one of Texas's most acclaimed boutique hospitality brands (now under Hyatt), and Hotel Daphne raises the bar with its Ackerley Family art collection, a restaurant helmed by two-time James Beard Award nominee Terrence Gallivan, and interiors designed entirely in-house by Bunkhouse's own team.
Hotel Daphne opened in December 2025 as Bunkhouse Hotels' second Houston property — a 49-room new-build in Houston Heights that leans hard into the neighborhood's artistic, utopian roots. The five-story painted-brick building, designed by Blanchard A+D, fits right into the recycled industrial streetscape with stepped parapets and steel-framed windows. Inside, it's a proper collector's home: handmade tilework, vintage Murano chandeliers, Mohair seating, and over 160 works from developer Ben Ackerley's personal art collection. No pool yet — that's slated for spring 2027 along with 10 additional bungalow suites.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Over 160 works from the Ackerley Family's private collection are displayed throughout the hotel — lobby, hallways, library, and guest rooms. Works by Vernon Fisher, Kent Dorn, Kelli Vance, Dorothy Hood, and Alexandra Valenti are on view. The hotel's art director (formerly executive director of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston) curates rotating selections.
The lush walled courtyard features an 860-square-foot lawn, designed by Houston landscape firm McDugald Steele. Open for open-air gatherings and casual receptions. Heritage oak trees frame the space.
The hotel's high-gloss blue library — lined floor-to-ceiling with books, ceramics, and found objects — has three custom gaming tables equipped with an onyx chess set, marble checkers, and a bare table for board games. Open to all guests during hotel hours. French doors close off the space for private events.
The on-site retail shop carries Hotel Daphne merchandise and one-of-a-kind finds — including the signature property robe (custom-made in India from 100% cotton, with Bunkhouse's 8th property-specific design), embroidered sweatshirts, and artful objects that reflect the hotel's aesthetic. Also available online at hoteldaphneshop.com.
The hotel is one block from 19th Street, Houston Heights' main drag, lined with antique shops, locally-owned boutiques, chef-driven restaurants, and the historic Heights Theater. White Oak Music Hall is nearby. The neighborhood is genuinely walkable by Houston standards.
