du Vin Brighton
Moody, wine-obsessed boutique with a masculine 1920s-club feel. Leather upholstery, roll-top baths, hardwood floors, and rooms named after wine producers. Each room looks different, which is either charming or maddening depending on what you're used to.
Rooms are named after wine producers; ask reception which room name you're getting — some are quirkier than others
Why It Matters
One of the more architecturally interesting properties in the Hotel du Vin portfolio — the mock Tudor and Gothic revival buildings were erected by a wine merchant and retain a seriously eccentric character. The double-helix carved staircase and gargoyle-adorned facade are not things you'll see at a standard city hotel. An on-site sommelier and extensive wine cellars mean the wine program is the real deal, not just branding.
Hotel du Vin Brighton occupies a cluster of striking Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings in The Lanes — Brighton's oldest quarter — dating back to 1615, originally built by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. The result is 49 individually designed rooms spread across a genuinely unusual set of structures: carved staircases, gargoyles, exposed wooden beams, and a double-height entrance hall that now houses the wine bar. It's a proper character hotel, not a polished corporate box.
