du Vin Bristol
Wine-forward, warehouse-industrial boutique. Dark wood, leather sofas, candlelight. Thinks of itself as a French bistro that happens to have beds upstairs.
Rooms are named after wine producers (Freixenet, Harvey's, Pommery, Perrier-Jouët) — ask for one with a courtyard-facing aspect for more character
Why It Matters
One of the founding properties in the Hotel du Vin chain and one of the few UK boutique hotels to be a certified La Casa del Habano cigar retailer. The grade II–listed Sugar House building dates to the 1700s and still has the original industrial bones — exposed brickwork, reclaimed floorboards, and timber beams — running through every room.
Hotel du Vin Bristol occupies a row of lovingly restored 18th-century sugar warehouses right in the city centre, a few blocks from the renovated docklands. The whole thing is built around wine — proper cellars stocked with 500+ bottles, rooms named after champagne houses, and a French bistro that takes its food seriously. Forty rooms, exposed brickwork, roll-top baths in every one, and a courtyard cigar terrace. No pool, no spa, no gym — this place knows what it is.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Hotel du Vin Bristol is an official La Casa del Habano retailer, sourcing premium Cuban cigars exclusively through Hunters & Frankau. The courtyard terrace serves as the cigar space — Cohibas, Montecristo No. 2s, the proper catalogue. Call ahead to check stock availability.
Multiple private spaces in the Sugar House for dinners, receptions, and celebrations. Lombard (seats 28, up to 60 for drinks), Christie's Library (18 seated, has a private bar and built-in BOSE sound system), Lanson (most intimate, up to 10 people, adjacent to the bistro), Le Pin (44 banqueting, 70 for drinks), and the Wine Cellar (candlelit, intimate).
The brand's own wine and loyalty club. Members get early access to exclusive wines, special offers, and curated experiences across all Hotel du Vin properties.
Hosted events pairing dishes with wines from visiting producers. The May 2025 edition features Familia Deicas. These are bookable through the events page and run throughout the year — worth checking the calendar before visiting.
Informal but informative sessions led by in-house wine ambassadors and sommeliers. The cellar covers everything from classic Bordeaux and Burgundy to New World producers. Available by prior arrangement.
