Hotel Emblemático La Casa de los Naranjos
Old-world Canarian manor meets fin-de-siècle antique shop — romantic, intimate, and slightly eccentric. High ceilings, original parquet floors, stained glass, and reclaimed wood furniture made on-site sit alongside thoughtful contemporary touches. Think period drama set design, but genuinely lived-in.
Room 1 is the flagship: nearly 5-metre ceilings, views over the orange trees, and a freestanding vintage bathtub as the centrepiece of the bathroom. Worth the premium.
Why It Matters
The only property of its kind in northern Lanzarote — a Heritage-listed 19th-century mansion holding the island's oldest library, granted the government's official 'Emblematic Hotel' designation, and featured by Michelin/Tablet Hotels, Mr & Mrs Smith, and Condé Nast-adjacent publications. Owner José also engineered his own rainwater collection and filtration system and installed solar panels, making sustainability a structural part of the property.
A 200-year-old manor house formally listed as a monumental building in Lanzarote's Heritage Register, La Casa de los Naranjos was bought in 2017 by civil engineer José Antonio García — in a semi-ruined state — and painstakingly restored before opening in December 2021. Eight rooms, each distinct, are arranged around a central courtyard, filled with owner José's hand-selected antiques: vintage pianos, gilded mirrors, ornate chandeliers, and a grandfather clock. The oldest library on the island anchors the common spaces, and 30 orange trees line the front garden that gave the hotel its name.
