Hotel Fauchere
Historic American boutique with a European sensibility — art-forward, quietly cosmopolitan, and a little surprising for a small Pennsylvania mountain town

Why It Matters
Founded by a Delmonico's master chef in 1852, the hotel ran under the same family for 124 years. The 2006 restoration halved the room count to dramatically expand room size, added spa-like marble bathrooms, and turned the property into a living gallery for Hudson River School artwork. It holds a 2025 Michelin Guide selection and is a Tablet Hotels member.
Hotel Fauchère is a 16-room boutique hotel inside a classic 1880 Italianate building smack in the center of Milford's National Historic District. From the outside it looks like the quintessential small-town Pennsylvania inn. Step inside and you get marble bathrooms, original Hudson River School paintings, and a subterranean bar designed around a Christopher Makos photograph of Andy Warhol and John Lennon. Founded in 1852 by Swiss-born master chef Louis Fauchère — who cooked at Delmonico's in New York before heading upstate — the hotel ran in the same family for 124 years, closed in 1976, and reopened in 2006 after a full restoration. Prices run $219 and up, rooms are queen-bed-only, and there's no pool. But the food is genuinely good, parking is free, and breakfast comes with every stay.
