Hotel Flora Batava
Dutch country estate meets contemporary boutique. Botanical motifs and original beamed ceilings coexist with clean modern furnishings and curated art. Calm and romantic, skewing toward couples and weekend escapers. The grounds — with ornamental ponds, walking paths, and a waterside teahouse — do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Why It Matters
A nationally listed heritage villa that was genuinely derelict before its 2016 restoration. Agnes Block's story — first pineapple cultivator in the Netherlands, patron of artists like Maria Sibylla Merian — gives the property real historical weight beyond generic 'country house charm'. Surrounded by the UNESCO-listed New Dutch Water Line, and on the Vecht, meaning guests can literally sail or cycle out the front door.
Hotel Flora Batava sits on the de Vijverhof country estate along the river Vecht, about halfway between Amsterdam and Utrecht. The estate dates to 1670, when botanist Agnes Block grew the first pineapple in the Netherlands here and earned the nickname 'Flora Batava'. The current national heritage villa was built in 1866, fell into disrepair, and was rescued in 2016 by new owner Inge van de Ven, who restored the historic facades while adding a glass conservatory and contemporary interiors. Spread across three buildings, the 45 rooms range from compact 15 m² cosies to a river-facing 37 m² suite with a freestanding bath.
