Hotel Gut Immenhof
Nordic rural elegance — think light linens, warm wood, lake views, and horses everywhere. Casual but well-dressed. Families with kids who love ponies sit next to couples splurging on the tasting menu. The vibe is genuine countryside, not manufactured rusticity.
The Melkhus lakeside terrace in summer is the best seat in the house — book ahead for warm-weather evenings
Why It Matters
The property is part of German cultural history — it served as the film set for the Immenhof film trilogy (1955–1957), and the on-site Immenhof Museum displays original props and posters. It also holds a Der Feinschmecker award and a 9.4/10 Booking.com Traveller Review Award for 2026. The equestrian centre, run by master equestrian Anne Benkert, is one of the most fully realised hotel riding operations in northern Germany.
A renovated 14th-century estate on the shores of Kellersee, Hotel Gut Immenhof is famous in Germany as the filming location for the beloved 1950s Immenhof film trilogy. The 12-building complex opened as a hotel in October 2021 after extensive restoration, and delivers a convincing mix of Nordic country-house charm, serious equestrian facilities, and two very good restaurants. No two rooms are alike — the historic building saw to that.
