Hotel Hans
Avant-garde urban boutique. Theatrical and edgy without trying too hard. More Milan warehouse-conversion than Copenhagen-cosy.
Ask for a courtyard-facing room — street-side rooms cop traffic noise from Åboulevard
Why It Matters
Named after Brøchner Hotels founder Hans Brøchner-Mortensen, the hotel is a deliberate break from Scandicore blandness. It's one of the few Copenhagen properties explicitly rejecting the hygge aesthetic in favour of something more dramatic — and it's brand new, having opened in November 2025. B Corp certified parent group. On Tablet Hotels.
Hotel Hans is the November 2025 reinvention of the former Avenue Hotel — a red-brick 1900 building designed by architect Emil Blichfeldt (the same mind behind Tivoli Gardens' entrance) on the border of Nørrebro and Frederiksberg. The interior deliberately plays the two neighbourhoods against each other: enter from the street into a lobby bar of textured concrete, industrial lighting, and bold neon artworks, then walk through to green marble floors and an elegant courtyard terrace. Rooms pull the same trick at a smaller scale — dark grays and deep greens overhead, tan armchairs, dark wood built-ins, and metallic bathroom vanities. It's decidedly not hygge.
