Why It Matters
Named after Brøchner Hotels founder Hans Brøchner-Mortensen, the hotel is a deliberate break from Scandicore blandness. It's one of the few Copenhagen properties explicitly rejecting the hygge aesthetic in favour of something more dramatic — and it's brand new, having opened in November 2025. Hotel Hans is the November 2025 reinvention of the former Avenue Hotel — a red-brick 1900 building designed by architect Emil Blichfeldt (the same mind behind Tivoli Gardens' entrance) on the border of Nørrebro and Frederiksberg. The interior deliberately plays the two neighbourhoods against each other: enter from the street into a lobby bar of textured concrete, industrial lighting, and bold neon artworks, then walk through to green marble floors and an elegant courtyard terrace. Rooms pull the same trick at a smaller scale — dark grays and deep greens overhead, tan armchairs, dark wood built-ins, and metallic bathroom vanities. It's decidedly not hygge.

Deluxe Double Room with Balcony
Larger take on the standard room format, but with a private balcony — a metal bistro table and two chairs overlooking either the street or courtyard. Same palette of dark greens and grays, metallic accents, and warm wood finishes. Walk-in shower. More space to breathe.
Standard Double Room
The base room at Hotel Hans. Dark grays and deep greens on the walls, tan/yellow armchairs, dark-toned wood built-in desk and wardrobe, metallic touches in the bathroom. Soundproof windows with blackout curtains paired with sheer drapes. Compact but not cramped. Some have a cozy window-seat nook.
Suite with Rooftop Terrace
The showstopper. A two-floor suite with a private 25 m² rooftop terrace kitted out with seating and 360-degree views of Copenhagen. Inside: a separate living room, bedroom, and walk-in shower bathroom. Air conditioning, minibar, sofa bed option, streaming TV. The two-level layout feels genuinely special — not just a bigger version of a regular room.
