Hotel i Dammusi di Borgo Cala Creta
Rustic-authentic village resort. Arab-Berber architectural heritage meets slow Mediterranean living. Low-key, naturalistic, deliberately analog — no pools, no spa. The draw is the raw landscape, the stone architecture, and proximity to a protected marine reserve.
Request a Comfort Plus or Suite unit — the extra bathroom space makes a real difference in summer heat.
Why It Matters
One of only a handful of dammusi-style accommodations on Lampedusa operating at this scale. Selected by Tablet Hotels and listed in the Michelin Hotels & Stays guide. The property holds Green Key certification and was the first hotel in Italy to achieve Hotel Sustainability Basics verification from SGS. The 70 kWp solar installation covers roughly 40% of energy needs during high season.
Twenty-three white-domed stone cottages perched on the cliffs above Cala Creta, one of Lampedusa's most striking bays. These are dammusi — traditional Arab-influenced dwellings built from local stone — and the thick walls keep interiors naturally cool even in August. Family-run since 1970, it's the kind of place that caters to people who want to actually decompress: no TV in the rooms, the sea directly below, and an Arab-style cloister garden that flips from breakfast terrace to dinner restaurant at sundown.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
An on-site art gallery space noted by multiple sources. Small but adds to the cultural character of the property.
Electric bikes available for guests to explore the island — request at booking. The hotel actively promotes this as its low-carbon alternative to scooter rental. Practical for reaching Rabbit Beach and the western end of the island.
A circumnavigation of Lampedusa by traditional gulet boat — guests consistently recommend it as a highlight alongside the restaurant. Allows access to sea caves and coves not reachable by land.
The hotel arranges excursions to the neighboring island of Linosa and the uninhabited rock of Lampione, both part of the Pelagie archipelago. Linosa in particular is a volcanic island worth a day trip.
The hotel has an agreement with a PADI-certified dive center. Lampedusa's marine reserve waters are excellent for diving — strong visibility, sea turtles, and rich fish life. Bookable through the hotel's concierge.
The hotel arranges rentals of cars, scooters, bicycles, inflatable boats (gommoni), and rafts — useful given the property's semi-remote location on the island's eastern edge.
