Indigo Bath
Contemporary Classic & Lively — Georgian bones, modern personality. Rooms are themed around Bath's literary, architectural, and social history, with five distinct design identities. The underground Vault Rooms in particular have a moody, atmospheric quality that's genuinely unlike anything else in the city.
Vault Rooms can be requested (not guaranteed) — worth asking at booking or check-in if you want the most atmospheric option.
Why It Matters
One of the most coherent examples of the Hotel Indigo concept anywhere in the IHG portfolio — a building that's authentically of its place rather than generically boutique. Two restaurants (The Elder and Brasserie Beau) are both Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award winners and genuine dining destinations in their own right, not just hotel restaurants. The 12 underground Vault Rooms are a singular draw.
Hotel Indigo Bath occupies a row of honey-colored Georgian townhouses on South Parade, originally built in 1740 and now Grade I listed. What was once 12 interconnected private houses — with notable lodgers including Sir Walter Scott and William Wilberforce — is today a 154-room boutique hotel that threads modern luxury through original architecture. Think Hypnos beds and Nespresso machines inside rooms where plasterwork cornicing still carries 18th-century DNA.
