Why It Matters

The first Hotel Indigo to open in Italy. The building dates to the 16th century and was designed by Donato Bramante — the same architect behind the original St. Peter's Basilica plan. The large travertine stones on the facade reportedly came from the Colosseum. The location on Via Giulia, a car-free Renaissance street, is genuinely special.

Hotel Indigo Rome – St. George sits on Via Giulia, one of Rome's most atmospheric Renaissance streets, inside a 16th-century building originally designed by Donato Bramante. Sixty-two rooms fill seven floors, and the design plays the past against the present deliberately: travertine marble walls, ancient arches, and parquet floors throughout, alongside cobalt-blue murals and Fiat 500 references in certain rooms. Think Prada handbag more than grand palazzo — refined, understated, and efficiently run. No pool, no sprawling grounds. But the spa is genuinely good, the roof terrace has 360° views of the city, and you're walking distance from the Vatican, Campo de' Fiori, and Piazza Navona.

The step-up category and the personality change is noticeable. The Premium rooms are themed around the legendary Fiat 500, with cobalt blue as the dominant color and playful Italian design references throughout. The extra 7 sqm over Standard makes a real difference. Some configurations include a balcony. Complimentary minibar and a Nespresso machine are included — upgrades the Standard doesn't get.

Standard Room

The entry-level room is tighter than you might hope for a 5-star stay — 20 sqm is honest but compact. The design theme draws on the San Giovanni dei Fiorentini Basilica, originally designed by Bramante and located steps away on Via Giulia. Warm parquet flooring, travertine stone in the bathroom, and a comfortable king or queen bed. No frills, but well-finished.
