Indigo Rome - St. George
Polished boutique. Contemporary Italian design inside Renaissance bones. Calm and precise — a little bit Scandinavian, a little bit Caravaggio. More business-efficient than romance-heavy, though couples do well here too. Each room type draws on a different slice of Italian art or design history, from Renaissance frescoes to the iconic Fiat 500.
Book the complimentary Roman Bath spa session in advance — each room gets one private session per day (up to one hour) and slots fill up.
Why It Matters
The first Hotel Indigo to open in Italy. The building dates to the 16th century and was designed by Donato Bramante — the same architect behind the original St. Peter's Basilica plan. The large travertine stones on the facade reportedly came from the Colosseum. The location on Via Giulia, a car-free Renaissance street, is genuinely special.
Hotel Indigo Rome – St. George sits on Via Giulia, one of Rome's most atmospheric Renaissance streets, inside a 16th-century building originally designed by Donato Bramante. Sixty-two rooms fill seven floors, and the design plays the past against the present deliberately: travertine marble walls, ancient arches, and parquet floors throughout, alongside cobalt-blue murals and Fiat 500 references in certain rooms. Think Prada handbag more than grand palazzo — refined, understated, and efficiently run. No pool, no sprawling grounds. But the spa is genuinely good, the roof terrace has 360° views of the city, and you're walking distance from the Vatican, Campo de' Fiori, and Piazza Navona.
