HOTEL LA VIGNE HAKUBA
Modern alpine apartment-hotel with a serious Japanese wine program — clean Scandinavian-adjacent interiors, Shinshu craft objects throughout, and a deep commitment to regional gastronomy. More design-forward than traditional ryokan, without the fussiness of a big resort.

Why It Matters
The only alpine resort hotel in Hakuba with a dedicated wine concierge and a cellar of 1,000+ exclusively Japanese wines. FÛDO has won back-to-back Gold awards at the Star Wine List of the Year Japan. Head Chef Yamato Imanishi trained at Michel Bras and Septime in Paris. Every room is a corner suite with Alps views and a full kitchen — making it feel more like a private apartment than a standard hotel room.
Opened in December 2024, Hotel La Vigne Hakuba is a purpose-built alpine resort hotel with 38 corner suites — every single one facing the Northern Alps. The name references the grapevine (la vigne in French), and the wine program is the real hook here: a cellar of over 1,000 hand-selected Japanese wines curated by a sommelier who once served world leaders at the Hokkaido G8 Summit. Restaurant FÛDO handles the food side with French-inflected bistronomy and live teppanyaki, drawing on Shinshu regional produce. It's a brand-new build with no onsen or spa, but the apartment-style rooms with full kitchens and washing machines make it a genuine base for both short ski trips and longer stays.
