Hotel Leitenhof
Alpine chalet village. Cozy and family-run, but genuinely luxurious. Think antique Tyrolean craftsmanship with real attention to detail, not a pastiche of it.
Book a standalone chalet rather than a Residenz suite if privacy matters — chalets have their own entrance, sauna, and terrace
Why It Matters
One of the few properties in the Austrian Alps that genuinely looks and feels like a small mountain village rather than a hotel block. The Hautz family still runs it personally, and the combination of individual chalets with private saunas and whirlpools, a Gault Millau-noted kitchen, and direct access to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser is hard to beat at this price point.
Built up gradually by the Hautz family since the late 1990s, Leitenhof feels less like a hotel and more like a private hamlet. It's a cluster of suites and standalone chalets spread across a hillside above Scheffau, with the jagged Wilder Kaiser massif rising straight behind. Aged timber beams, stone fireplaces, fur throws, and hand-thrown ceramics from the in-house pottery run through every space. The kitchen raises its own Mangalica pigs and grows herbs from the garden — and it shows on the plate.
