Why It Matters
One of Lisbon's few genuinely family-owned hotels still operating in an original historic building since 1954. Member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2022. Won British Airways Holidays Customer Excellence Award in both 2023 and 2024. The Namban screen, the library fireplace, the complimentary 24-hour coffee and tea lounge — small touches that OTA-dependent hotels don't bother with.
Opened in 1954 as the Hotel Condestável, the Lisboa Plaza has been in the same Portuguese family's hands ever since — and it shows. Old prints of Lisbon life line the staircase, vintage telephone kiosks have been charmingly preserved, and behind reception stands a glittering gold Namban screen depicting the Portuguese arrival in Japan in 1543. It sits just off Avenida da Liberdade on a quiet side street, with Lisbon's Botanical Gardens visible out the back windows. A rare thing: genuine character that hasn't been manufactured.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Via select packages (Golden Age Offer, Romantic Lisbon Package, and the Heritage Cultural Offer), guests receive complimentary admission to 20 museums in Lisbon. The hotel has a special partnership with the National Museum of Ancient Art — which holds the original Namban screen that the hotel's lobby replica depicts.
Guests can borrow books from the hotel's in-house library and settle in beside the fireplace in the reading area. Small, but genuinely curated — not a shelf of forgotten paperbacks.
A 5th-floor terrace with views over Lisbon. Guests repeatedly single this out as a peaceful retreat — a good place to decompress after walking the city's seven hills. Not a pool deck, just a quiet outdoor space with city views.
