A 4-star boutique hotel occupying a neo-Baroque corner building on Basel's Marktplatz — the kind of address that makes other hotels envious. The building has a serious pedigree: this corner was once a café haunt of Picasso, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, and Toulouse-Lautrec. The 1950s expansion into the adjacent 1920s commercial building created a single hotel with 68 rooms, and the recent renovation by designers Iria Degen Interiors and Nader Interior, plus muralist Patrizia Stalder, turned it into something genuinely playful. The best option for families or anyone who wants genuine space. At 33–35 m² these are meaningfully larger than the standard tiers. Twin beds plus a sofa or armchair — the setup works well for a parent and one child. Not a suite, but you won't feel cramped.

The room to book. Bay windows look directly out onto the Marktplatz and the Rathaus — you get the best address in Basel from your bed. At 35–44 m², there's a free-standing bathtub (separate from the rainfall shower), king-size bed, and sofa. Sleeping here while Basel's market square does its thing below is worth every franc.

A step up from Superior — slightly larger with a semi-open bathroom rather than fully open-plan. Box spring beds are a nice touch. The spacious bathroom layout with its partial separation gives you a bit more breathing room.
