Hotel Maximilian's
Grand Bavarian landmark with proper five-star service. Mid-century bones dressed up with contemporary design touches — 300-year-old oil paintings next to Tom Dixon furniture. Formal without being stuffy.
Ask for a Maximilianstrasse-facing room — the street views are the whole point of staying here
Why It Matters
Only 5-Star Superior hotel in Augsburg. Michelin-starred Sartory restaurant (since 2019). Over 300 years of history with a remarkable guest register. Rooftop pool overlooking the city's historic skyline. Member of Historic Hotels Worldwide and Preferred Hotels LVX Collection.
Augsburg's only five-star superior hotel, Hotel Maximilian's has been receiving guests on the city's grand Maximilianstrasse boulevard since 1495 — though the current building dates to a post-WWII rebuild (bombed February 1944, reopened May 1956). In 2020 it cut ties with Steigenberger and rebranded fully independent, joined the Preferred Hotels LVX Collection, and now runs one of only a handful of Michelin-starred restaurants in the city. The guest register reads like a history textbook: Mozart in 1763, Casanova in 1756, Goethe in 1790.
