A Spanish chain operating out of an Art Deco villa built by a wealthy Genovese industrialist — and it works surprisingly well. The building was designed by architect Giuseppe Crosa di Vergagni, the same man behind the Piazza De Ferrari fountain, and it shows: the bones are grand and the proportions generous. Rooms lean into the heritage with warm colors and decadent marble-clad bathrooms, while Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs keep things comfortably 21st century. The Carignano neighborhood is greener and quieter than you'd expect for a city center location, with the historic core about a 10-minute walk away.
