Why It Matters
One of Maastricht's few genuine historic-conversion boutique hotels. The 14th-century bones are real, not pastiche, and the Vondel Hotels group has done a sensitive job keeping them visible while making the rooms genuinely comfortable. The in-house restaurant Café Louis draws its own crowd.
A 14th-century monastery converted into a 52-room boutique hotel on Maastricht's central Boschstraat. The building has been stripped back and dressed up at the same time: original Mosa tiles, marble fireplaces, ornate plasterwork ceilings, and old carriage-gate lintels all survive, but the interior layers in contemporary art, designer furniture, and plush textiles for a result the hotel calls Parisian chic. It works. And it's one of the better-value upscale stays in this part of the Netherlands.
