Why It Matters

The food and wine programme is the real draw: a tasting menu that costs €95 and showcases Urdaibai's ecosystems course by course. The brothers source from local farmers, fishers, and artisans — down to the hand-thrown ceramics on the breakfast table. A restored 13th-century Basque farmhouse run by brothers Josu and Gaizka Goikoetxea Larrauri, who opened Nafarrola in 2021 on their family's land. Eight suites only. Gaizka runs ROLA restaurant — farm-to-table Basque cooking with a 250-bottle cellar — while Josu curates every experience, from txakoli winery tours to forest massages. Set on 25 acres inside the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, with the Bay of Biscay visible across the valley and Bilbao airport 23km away.
