Why It Matters
Built on the grounds of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic parish (est. 1848) — one of the most ambitious adaptive-reuse projects in New Orleans hospitality. Hotel Peter & Paul is a 71-room boutique hotel carved out of a former Catholic church and school in New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny. The result of a $20 million, four-year restoration by Ash NYC, the 19th-century buildings — a schoolhouse, rectory, convent, and deconsecrated church — have been converted into a place that feels genuinely old New Orleans rather than a pastiche of it. Style is eclectic and unabashedly romantic: peeling paint on wooden doors, cypress-wood mouldings, stained-glass windows, original marble fireplaces, antique furnishings sourced from European fairs, and color palettes lifted from 14th–18th century religious paintings. It's the anti-minimalist hotel New Orleans deserves.

Convent Classic
The former home of the Marianite nuns now houses 7 tranquil rooms. The Convent Classic has a stark white and royal blue palette with bespoke furniture — a very different feel from the Rectory's richness. Canopied queen or king beds and large, serene bathrooms at 230–340 sq ft.
Queen or KingMother Superior
The Convent's flagship room — a king bed and soaking tub in 340–450 sq ft. The hotel's tagline for it: 'A home for contemplation or revelry, the Mother Superior does not judge.' That's accurate for the whole hotel, really.
King
Rector's Repose
The showpiece room of the entire hotel. A king bed, 430 sq ft, and a custom limestone bathtub positioned under a hanging antique chandelier — there's also a small portrait of the Messiah on the wall. Luxuriant Venetian red tones and a dramatic canopy bed complete the picture. Worth every penny if the budget stretches.
KingRectory Classic
The Rectory is a soft red brick 1875 building where clergy once lived. The Classic rooms here are centered over the courtyard and feature canopied queen beds, marble bathrooms, and Venetian red tones. More regal than the Schoolhouse rooms. Small at 200–250 sq ft but highly atmospheric.

School House Bunk
Two twin bunk beds in 285 sq ft — the family-friendly and friend-trip option. The original schoolhouse stage backdrop mural (painted for the school's first production in 1900) sets the theatrical mood. Connects to other rooms for larger groups.

A comfortable step up from the Petite — queen or king bed with more breathing room. Still in the former schoolhouse with its European-influenced palette and artisan furnishings. Some rooms have accessibility features. Select rooms include claw-foot bathtubs.

The roomiest of the Schoolhouse category — a loft configuration up under the eaves. Guests specifically call out the spiral staircase leading to the sleeping level. Between 400–575 sq ft with queen or king bed. Fits nobility, as the hotel puts it.

The most compact option in the hotel — good for a solo traveler or a pair watching their spend. Former classroom bones give these rooms their character: gingham accents, hand-painted striped tile showers, and color palettes pulled from medieval religious paintings. Small but not sparse.
