Hotel Peter and Paul
Eclectic, bohemian, ecclesiastical-meets-hedonistic. Atmospheric and layered rather than polished or slick. Think antique canopy beds, claw-foot tubs, and a bar where the stained-glass glow hits just right.
Book a Rectory or Convent room if budget allows — Schoolhouse rooms are more compact
Why It Matters
Built on the grounds of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic parish (est. 1848) — one of the most ambitious adaptive-reuse projects in New Orleans hospitality. The site even appeared in 'A Confederacy of Dunces.' The Elysian Bar has won multiple awards and draws as many locals as hotel guests. No two rooms are alike across four distinct buildings.
Hotel Peter & Paul is a 71-room boutique hotel carved out of a former Catholic church and school in New Orleans' Faubourg Marigny. The result of a $20 million, four-year restoration by Ash NYC, the 19th-century buildings — a schoolhouse, rectory, convent, and deconsecrated church — have been converted into a place that feels genuinely old New Orleans rather than a pastiche of it. Style is eclectic and unabashedly romantic: peeling paint on wooden doors, cypress-wood mouldings, stained-glass windows, original marble fireplaces, antique furnishings sourced from European fairs, and color palettes lifted from 14th–18th century religious paintings. It's the anti-minimalist hotel New Orleans deserves.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Warm pastries, honey butter, coffee, and juice delivered to your room. One of the hotel's signature in-room amenity touches.
The hotel runs 300+ community events annually, partnering with local arts organizations. Past events have included Tales of the Cocktail, Overlook Film Festival, Prospect New Orleans, and performances by local musicians. A real community hub, not just a hotel amenity.
An outdoor courtyard with a burbling fountain, potted palms, and string lights — great for an evening drink when the stained-glass light filters through from the church.
Cycling available for guests to explore the Marigny neighborhood and beyond.
The deconsecrated 5,000 sq ft red brick church hosts live music, local performances, and curated cultural events. Past performers have included Irma Thomas, Davell Crawford, Nicholas Payton, and Beck. Check the programming calendar for upcoming events.
The original schoolhouse stage and auditorium has been converted to a guest lounge. The stage backdrop mural was painted by Ann Marie Auricchio depicting a set from the school's first production in 1900. Must arrange access with hotel reception.
Morning yoga sessions occasionally held in the historic church space. Check the hotel's programming calendar.
