Insider Tip
1/6

Book La Table du Valrose well in advance — it runs at full capacity and the restaurant is a destination in its own right, drawing diners who don't even stay the night

Why It Matters

A 2 Michelin-starred restaurant housed inside a 12-room mountain hotel. Chef Benoît Carcenat, Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2015, has put this quiet Swiss village on the serious fine-dining map. The Gault&Millau score hit 18/20 and the restaurant was named a 'Grande Table de Suisse'. For a property of this size and setting, that's remarkable.

Founded in 1904, the Valrose is a 12-room, 4-star boutique hotel sitting right beside the train station in Rougemont, an Alpine village 6km from Gstaad. Traditional fir wood walls, regional granite, and refined fabrics pull off the 'contemporary chalet' look without feeling forced. But the real reason to come is La Table du Valrose — chef Benoît Carcenat (Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2015) holds 2 Michelin stars here, at 1,000m altitude, in a 12-room hotel. That combination is genuinely rare.

Where You'll Stay

3 room types available

Classic Room
Classic

Classic Room

Four Classic rooms decorated in a contemporary chalet style with red, green, or grey fabrics. Traditional fir wood combines with regional granite and fine fabrics. Views look out over the Rubli — Rougemont's emblematic mountain — or onto the 11th-century Romanesque church and 16th-century castle. The OG category here; intimate and well-appointed, though some reviewers flag them as the most compact of the three room types.

Prestige Room

The top category — four spacious rooms built from old solid fir timber and natural stone, with Schlossberg luxury bedding, balcony or terrace, and the full amenity set. One Prestige room has been fitted for guests with reduced mobility. These are the rooms you book if you're here for the full experience and don't want to feel squeezed after a 9-course dinner.

Superior Room

Four Superior rooms, each unique in character. One has a terrace lounge for reading with an unobstructed view of the Rubli; another retains original wooden beams from 1904 and frames the valley's setting sun. A third looks down onto the Romanesque church in the Sarine valley. Generous proportions and warm tones of red, green, or grey. The 160x200cm bed is slightly narrower than the Classic/Prestige categories — worth noting for tall couples.
