Hotel-Restaurant Valrose
Contemporary Alpine chalet — intimate, warm, gourmet-forward. Feels like a well-loved village institution that got a very smart renovation.
Book La Table du Valrose well in advance — it runs at full capacity and the restaurant is a destination in its own right, drawing diners who don't even stay the night
Why It Matters
A 2 Michelin-starred restaurant housed inside a 12-room mountain hotel. Chef Benoît Carcenat, Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2015, has put this quiet Swiss village on the serious fine-dining map. The Gault&Millau score hit 18/20 and the restaurant was named a 'Grande Table de Suisse'. For a property of this size and setting, that's remarkable.
Founded in 1904, the Valrose is a 12-room, 4-star boutique hotel sitting right beside the train station in Rougemont, an Alpine village 6km from Gstaad. Traditional fir wood walls, regional granite, and refined fabrics pull off the 'contemporary chalet' look without feeling forced. But the real reason to come is La Table du Valrose — chef Benoît Carcenat (Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2015) holds 2 Michelin stars here, at 1,000m altitude, in a 12-room hotel. That combination is genuinely rare.

How you'll actually spend your days.
L'Etivaz PDO cheese is produced solely in summer in the alpine pastures above Rougemont — the cheese cellars are open for visits. La Tomme Fleurette de Rougemont is practically on the hotel's doorstep. A must for anyone interested in Swiss food culture.
A 3.6km cross-country loop around the Château de Rougemont available by day and by night. Tracks run directly opposite the hotel. The hotel also has cross-country equipment hire information available at reception.
58km of slopes rising to 2,151m, accessed in minutes via the Videmanette gondola 300m from the hotel. The area connects to Schönried, Eggli, and Glacier 3000 for more challenging terrain. Ski equipment hire is located directly next door to the hotel.
The hotel sits directly on the GoldenPass MOB panoramic railway line. The Belle-Époque carriages run between Montreux and Zweisimmen and pass right by the hotel — guests can jump on for a scenic day trip or use it as a travel highlight in itself.
Trails start essentially at the hotel's front door. The La Videmanette gondola is the launchpad for higher-altitude hikes. One stage of the Via Alpina long-distance trail (Gstaad to L'Etivaz) passes through Rougemont. Mountain lakes including Arnensee and Lauenen offer swimming and picnicking en route.
Château-d'Oex, the ballooning capital of Europe, is a short drive from Rougemont. The annual International Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place in January. Flights available year-round.
Hotel partner Paragliding Gstaad offers tandem flights over the Pays-d'Enhaut peaks with a Valrose-branded glider. One of the better ways to understand why this landscape draws people year after year.
The Swiss Pre-Alps around Rougemont have extensive cycling and mountain biking trails. The hotel has a dedicated bike room for storage. The Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut park trails cover multiple difficulty levels.
