Why It Matters
An operating inn since 1656 that's evolved into a serious wine-and-wellness destination. The Makidan restaurant has a strong local reputation. The vintage car fleet is genuinely fun. And the 4 Wellness Stars designation isn't handed out casually — the Ritter Spa genuinely earned it.
One of Germany's oldest inns, Hotel Ritter Durbach has been serving guests since 1656, and today it's a seriously polished 4-star superior property in the heart of Black Forest wine country. The architecture is a patchwork of centuries — a historic main building blended with a sleek 2014 extension — and the interiors follow suit, mixing warm traditional character with clean contemporary design. The whole property orbits around three big ideas: wine (it's on the Baden Wine Route, surrounded by Durbach's famous steep vineyards), food (the Makidan restaurant serves ambitious, daily-changing Black Forest soul food under head chef Jan Hoffmann), and wellness (a 1,200 sqm spa with four saunas, a pool, and wine-based treatments).
