Hotel Savoy Kansas City
Historic-boutique with contemporary bones. The building is Art Nouveau from 1888, the rooms are polished modern, and the restaurant feels like stepping into a time capsule that someone quietly upgraded. Serious history without the stuffiness.
Ask for a city-view room — some rooms face the parking garage across the street
Why It Matters
Built in 1888 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, this was the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi until 2016. The on-site Savoy restaurant dates to 1903 and features original murals by Edward Holslag — included in the Smithsonian's Bicentennial Inventory of American Paintings — plus the 'Presidents' Booth' frequented by Truman, Ford, and Reagan. Named one of the Top 20 Hotels in the USA/Midwest by Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards in 2020.
One of Kansas City's most historically loaded addresses, Hotel Savoy opened in 1889 and was — for well over a century — the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. The building closed in 2016 for a $50 million renovation, came back as the art-forward 21c Museum Hotel in 2018, then changed hands again in January 2025 and was rebranded under Hilton's Tapestry Collection with management by Avion Hospitality. The art museum angle is largely gone now, but what remains is still plenty: 120 rooms with high ceilings and original artwork, the legendary Savoy restaurant downstairs, and a lounge bar surrounded by 1903 Edward Holslag murals where presidents used to eat.

How you'll actually spend your days.
A modern, well-equipped 24-hour gym on-site. Reviewers note it lacks Peloton bikes found at some Hilton properties, but the equipment is high-quality and the space is well-designed.
The hotel building itself is the attraction. The 1903 Edward Holslag murals in the bar — depicting pioneers departing Westport Landing along the Santa Fe Trail — are listed in the Smithsonian's Bicentennial Inventory of American Paintings. Original stained-glass windows, carved oak bar, and the Presidents' Booth (Truman, Ford, Reagan) are all worth exploring. The building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
Live music every second Monday, Thursday, and Saturday in The Savoy restaurant/bar, featuring rotating performers including Rodney Fleeman, Roger Wilder, and Cynthia Van Roden. No cover — just show up (or book a table).
Every Monday from 5pm-11pm, The Savoy offers special pricing on a curated list of classic and creative martinis in the historic bar setting.
8,000 square feet of historic event space including the Main Gallery (up to 120 seated, 150 for receptions), a conference room for up to 12 with AV capabilities, private meeting areas, and a private rooftop suite. The Savoy's culinary team handles custom catering.
