Hotel Schwarzschmied
Contemporary Alpine wellness retreat with earthy design: larch, spruce, marble from the Vinschgau Valley, porphyry tiles, handwoven sheep's wool carpets, and custom lamps by Harry Thaler. The pace is deliberately slow. Yoga, hiking, and spa treatments over sightseeing.

Why It Matters
Member of Design Hotels (and Marriott Bonvoy bookable), Mr & Mrs Smith, and Tablet Hotels. Runs entirely on solar electricity. Partnership with Susanne Kaufmann natural cosmetics for all spa treatments. The Rooftop Suite 75m² won the German Design Award 2019. Owned and operated by brothers Klaus and Moritz Dissertori as part of the Alto Hotel Group.
A 68-room contemporary wellness hotel set among vineyards and orchards in Lana, a small South Tyrolean town midway between Bolzano and Merano. Originally built in 1981 and later gutted and redesigned by Christina Biasi-von Berg, the property leans hard into slow food, yoga, and Susanne Kaufmann spa treatments. This is the Italian Alps, but the name, the vibe, and the larder are all thoroughly Tyrolean — not a plate of carbonara in sight.

July and August only: a yurt in the hotel grounds runs supervised activities for children aged 4 to 14. Includes books, games, and outdoor activities. No crèche, but adult-supervised sessions throughout the day.
Daily yoga sessions in multiple styles (Hatha, Yin, Restorative, Kundalini, Flow) led by rotating resident teachers. Morning and evening sessions typically available. Yoga mat provided in every room.
Electric bikes available to hire for an additional fee, for those wanting more range or less effort on the climbs.
Both road and mountain bikes available to borrow free of charge. Trails and routes accessible directly from the hotel, including vineyard cycling routes and valley paths.
Well-equipped gym with free weights, machines, and cardio equipment with timbered detailing. Included with the stay.
A small, family-friendly ski hill reachable by funicular from Lana. Also offers an ice rink and a 2km toboggan run. Not the main Dolomites ski area, but excellent for families and beginners.
Sound treatments using tuning forks, sound boxes, and headphones to reduce stress, support regeneration, and activate the body's natural healing responses. Available as part of the spa program.
Guided hikes into the surrounding hills and valleys, included with every stay. Trails accessible directly from Lana. The 19th-century Brandis Waalweg water channel makes for a gentle introductory route above the town.
The hotel actively points guests toward local wine experiences: Zollweghof winery has cellar tours and a Friday walking tour; Kränzelhof winery offers guided tours with advance booking. The local monastery winery in Lana also features on La Fucina's wine list.
