Why It Matters
One of Switzerland's most photographed lakes as your front garden. The organic trout farm is on the property. A Gault&Millau kitchen. Outdoor hot tubs and bathtubs in a spa garden with lake views. And once the day-trippers go home around 5pm, the entire 22-hectare park is yours.
Built in 1878 as a sanatorium — and the mountain air is still the point — this bijou Art Nouveau grand hotel sits directly on the shores of the impossibly turquoise Blausee lake, inside a car-free 22-hectare nature park in the Bernese Oberland. 21 individually decorated rooms range from cozy 15 sqm singles to adults-only standalone forest cabins. The Gault&Millau-rated restaurant (13 points) leans hard on organic trout farmed right here on-site, and hotel guests get the spa and nature park entirely for free.
