Hotel Spitzhorn is an owner-run 3-star superior chalet hotel that opened in December 2013 on the sunny side of Saanen, 3km from Gstaad center. Hosts Ilse and Michel Wichman have built something genuinely good here: 50 rooms all with balcony views of the Alps, a proper indoor pool and spa area, and a restaurant turning out traditional Swiss food — including what guests consistently describe as the best rösti they've ever had. The infrastructure is legitimately 4-star quality at prices that make far more sense than most things in the Gstaad orbit.
