Hotel / Weingut Meintzinger
Franconian baroque meets street art and urban industrial — bold, individual, detail-obsessed. The owners call it 'nothing standard.' Historic stone bones, contemporary furnishings, graphic design sensibility, and wine everywhere.

Why It Matters
One of Germany's most characterful wine-hotel hybrids. A 220+ year family winery operating inside a 15th-century episcopal summer residence, redesigned by Würzburg architect Reinhard May with a deliberately irreverent aesthetic. Winemaker Jochen Meintzinger focuses on Silvaner and Riesling from the Kapellenberg vineyard. Included in both Tablet Hotels and the Michelin Guide hotel selection.
A working winery and hotel rolled into one, occupying a former summer residence of the Würzburg prince-bishops — a historic grange complex that dates back to 1475. The Meintzinger family has owned and operated the winery here since 1790, and over the past decade-plus has transformed the stone buildings into something genuinely unexpected: ancient cracked walls alongside exposed concrete, ceiling frescoes next to graffiti art, plush armchairs sharing space with hip barstools. It's a 3-star-rated property that punches well above that classification in personality and design. The ESS-Zimmer dining room, self-service wine fridge, LaWell spa, and on-site wine tastings mean you rarely need to leave.
