Ask for a courtyard-facing room if you want quiet; Ku'damm-facing rooms have better views but more street noise

Why It Matters

One of Berlin's most historically significant hotels, reopened after a complete transformation by Hollywood art director Dayna Lee. The Grace Bar draws a serious Berlin scene crowd nightly. Green Globe certified for sustainability. Features a commissioned photography series by Swedish artist Andreas Kock shot in the hotel before the renovation closed it.

Hotel Zoo Berlin is a 5-star boutique hotel sitting directly on Kurfürstendamm, Berlin's grandest shopping boulevard. Built in 1891 as a private residence by Prussian architect Alfred Messel and converted to a hotel in 1911, it hosted Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, and Sophia Loren during its Berlinale heyday before closing for a full gut renovation in 2012. American interior designer Dayna Lee (Powerstrip Studio, NY/LA) reopened it in 2014 with exposed original brick walls, soaring ceilings, bespoke furniture, and a 22-metre jade-green leopard-print entrance carpet designed by Diane von Furstenberg — equal parts Berlin heritage and New York townhouse glamour.
