House of Gods is a 22-room adults-only boutique hotel on the Cowgate, right in Edinburgh's Old Town, founded by brothers Mike and Ross Baxter. It's a deliberately maximalist property — think deep crimson velvet, Gucci-wallpapered bars, disco balls, cobra-shaped lamps, and four-poster beds with heavy damask curtains. The whole experience is choreographed around hedonism: in-room prosecco buttons, butler-delivered midnight cookies, and a cocktail bar where every drink is named after a rock star.

The Cabin
The tightest of the three options, inspired by a private berth on the Orient Express. Oak-panelled walls, opulent fabrics, and a handcrafted sleigh bed make it feel more cosy than cramped — but 107 sq ft is 107 sq ft. A full marble wet room and hand-built cocktail bar are crammed in, which is honestly impressive. Good for one night; probably not for three.

The Classic
Versailles reimagined at House of Gods scale. The centrepiece is a hand-built four-poster bed draped in heavy fabric — the kind you actually draw closed at night. At 150 sq ft it's still compact but the proportions feel right. Same marble wet room and in-room cocktail bar as the Cabin, but the four-poster makes the room. Most couples land here.

The Suite
The crown jewel. At 290 sq ft it's nearly triple the Cabin, and that space is used well: a four-poster bed with velvet drapes, a standalone copper roll-top bathtub (fits two, fills fast), a separate marble wet room, and two bars — one on the dresser, one hidden. The TV looks like a sheet of ice on the wall. The coffee machine hides behind the makeup mirror. It's theatrical, very dark, and genuinely special for a night.
