Why It Matters
It operates as two distinct hotel experiences under one reservation umbrella — a rare setup that lets guests swap between a rooftop infinity pool overlooking the city and a private beachfront retreat. The Downtown House rooftop is reputedly the largest in Playa del Carmen. The Beach House is the only boutique hotel in the area with direct beach access.
Two buildings, one hotel. The Downtown House sits right on Quinta Avenida — Playa del Carmen's famous pedestrian strip — with 92 adults-only rooms and the city's largest rooftop, complete with a block-long infinity pool. Four minutes away by shuttle (or by VW Vintage Beetle, as the hotel does it), the Beach House is a quieter, family-friendly enclave of 27 suites with direct beach access and an oceanfront pool. Both buildings share mid-century modern interiors with Mexican craft accents, floor-to-ceiling windows, and travertine bathrooms. The property reopened in December 2024 under the Hyatt Centric banner, rebranded from the well-regarded Thompson Playa del Carmen.
