Why It Matters
The first Hyatt in Ethiopia. Since December 2024, it is also the new home of Fendika — a Prince Claus Award-winning Ethiopian cultural center whose original Kazanchis compound was demolished. Fendika@Hyatt brings live traditional music, Eskista dance, and azmari performers directly into the hotel several nights a week, which is genuinely unusual for a Hyatt Regency anywhere in the world.
The first Hyatt to open in Ethiopia, this 188-room property sits directly on Meskel Square in the heart of Addis Ababa. Rooms are clean and well-appointed — though the standard 24 sqm options are genuinely compact — and the heated outdoor infinity pool, full spa, and on-site Fendika cultural center make it feel like considerably more than a standard business address. Government buildings, the UN Conference Centre, and Bole International Airport (about 15 minutes away) are all close, which is why the lobby fills with diplomats, NGO workers, and African Union delegates.
