Ask specifically for a Garden View room or suite — the Japanese garden is centuries old and genuinely calming to wake up to

Why It Matters

Interior designed by Super Potato Design (Tokyo), a firm known for raw, refined spaces. The hotel wraps around a Japanese garden several hundred years old. Executive Suites include a private nijiriguchi (traditional tearoom entrance) with tatami room and sunken kotatsu — a level of Japanese detail you rarely get at a Hyatt.

Proof that chain hotels don't have to be boring. The Hyatt Regency Kyoto sits in the Higashiyama Shichijo district, steps from the Kyoto National Museum and Sanjusangen-do Temple, and the interior — done by Tokyo-based Super Potato Design — uses antique kimono fabric and paper lanterns not as decoration but as the whole design language. All 187 rooms have deep-soaking tubs; upgrade to a Deluxe Balcony or suite and you get fragrant cypress baths instead. It's only five stories, which makes the whole place feel quieter and more considered than the usual city Hyatt.
