Montreal
Large-format luxury hotel with boutique aspirations — marble lobbies, a velvet absinthe bar named after Sarah Bernhardt, and a well-connected location that works as well for convention delegates as it does for weekend couples. Pre-renovation the rooms showed their age; post-renovation the owner (Groupe MACH) is targeting true five-star territory.
Book a Club Room — the lounge breakfast and evening aperitifs make the upgrade worth the cost versus buying separately at Osco!
Why It Matters
First four-diamond hotel in Old Montreal. Built atop stone vaults discovered during 1990 construction, integrated into the World Trade Centre complex with underground city access, and home to Sarah B. — one of Montreal's best-known absinthe bars. The 2026 renovation, backed by ~$20–25M, is the most comprehensive overhaul since the hotel opened.
A 26-story tower that sits squarely on the seam between Old Montreal and the financial district, the InterContinental Montreal is part of the Centre de Commerce Mondial de Montréal — a complex of historic buildings covered by an impressive glass roof. Opened in 1991 as the first four-diamond hotel in Old Montreal, it incorporates the heritage 1888 Nordheimer building for events while the tower handles the 357 rooms. The hotel is currently closed from February 1, 2026, for a full gut renovation estimated at 14–18 months, with everything from guest rooms to Osco! restaurant being modernized.

Sarah B. offers a dedicated absinthe history presentation and tasting session. Staff walk guests through the traditional preparation ritual — sugar cube, cold water drip, the louche — using a curated selection of bottles. Worth booking in advance for groups.
A partnership experience just steps from the hotel. Bota Bota is a former ferryboat converted into a spa moored on the St. Lawrence River, with a full water circuit: saunas, steam baths, cold plunges, and open-air relaxation decks with views of Old Montreal. Bookable as a hotel package.
The hotel's Clefs d'Or-certified concierges offer personalized city guidance including a classic route through Ruelle des Fortifications, through the Nordheimer building, and out onto rue Saint-Jacques. They handle restaurant reservations, private car bookings, and customized itineraries.
19 fully equipped meeting rooms across the historic Nordheimer building, ranging from intimate boardrooms to large banquet halls. The glass-roofed indoor atrium of the World Trade Centre serves as a stunning pre-function space. Customized menus, A/V integration, and dedicated event staff.
An exclusive rooftop terrace available for outdoor events in fine weather, in the heart of Old Montreal. Used for weddings, cocktail receptions, and corporate celebrations.
