Inverlochy Castle
Formal Highland country house. Think antiques, painted ceilings, enormous chandeliers, and a jacket-required dress code at dinner. This is old Scotland done properly — not as a theme. The staff know your name, evenings begin with champagne in the Great Hall, and there is one sitting for dinner every night.
Book Seasgair well ahead of arrival — there is only one sitting per evening, and it fills up. The hotel strongly recommends reserving your table at the time you book your room.
Why It Matters
One of Scotland's most celebrated castle hotels, with a Michelin-starred culinary pedigree through two-Michelin-star chef Michel Roux Jr overseeing the Seasgair restaurant. Listed in the 2021 Travel + Leisure 500. Queen Victoria reportedly said 'I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot.' Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
A genuine 19th-century Victorian baronial castle sitting at the foot of Ben Nevis, three miles from Fort William. The grounds include a private loch, a walled Victorian garden, and ancient woodland — and it feels a long way from everywhere, in the best possible sense. Just 17 rooms and suites (plus a Gate Lodge), which keeps the whole place feeling like a very grand private house rather than a hotel.
