Why It Matters
One of Japan's genuinely singular hotel concepts — the rooms are literally hollowed into a coastal cliff, about 10 meters above the beach. Awarded 1 Michelin Key for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025). Only 8 rooms total, making it extremely hard to book on weekends.
Eight rooms carved directly into a cliffside on the Sea of Japan — not perched on top, but inside the rock. Each cave-like room faces a different direction, opens onto a private terrace with an outdoor Jacuzzi, and has floor-to-ceiling views of the water. No TVs. No distractions. Just the sea, the sunset, and whatever is going on in your own head. The restaurant sits on the cliff above, run by the same Osaka-rooted BALNIBARBI group that built a following in Marunouchi.

Cave Double Room (King)
One of 4 double rooms carved into the cliff face. The room itself is 29.18 m², but the real living space extends out onto an 18.36 m² private terrace with an outdoor Jacuzzi pointed at the Sea of Japan. Shower only — no bathtub. No TV. Walls are raw concrete softened with Japanese woodwork details. Each room faces a slightly different direction so no two views are identical.

One of 4 twin rooms in the cliff. Identical setup to the double in size and terrace — 29.18 m² interior plus 18.36 m² terrace with a private outdoor Jacuzzi. Same raw concrete-and-wood aesthetic, same sea-facing orientation. Each room is angled differently from its neighbors so you get a distinct slice of coastline.

Villa Wanderlust
A separate stand-alone villa limited to one group per day. Sleeps up to 7 across two floors. The ground floor has a bedroom with 2 semi-double beds and a Japanese-style room with 3 single mattresses; the terrace off the ground floor has a private wood-burning sauna and a jacuzzi. The second floor holds a Japanese-style room with 2 single beds, a living room, and a full dining kitchen. Unlike the cave rooms, the villa has a TV and full kitchen. Pets are not allowed even here.

The hotel sits about 10 meters above the sandy beach directly below. Guests can access the beach for walks, swimming (seasonal), or just sitting close to the water.
The Shimane Sea of Japan coastline offers scenic cycling routes. The hotel's remote location on a preserved coastal cliff makes it a natural base for road rides.
Japan's most venerable Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity of matchmaking and good fortune. About 19 minutes by car from the hotel on National Route 431 and Kunibiki Coastal Road.
The western orientation of the cliffside makes this one of the better sunset-watching spots on the Sea of Japan coast. Every room has its own outdoor Jacuzzi on the terrace — sit in hot water while the sun goes down. No schedule, no tickets, no crowd.
