Safari Lodge
Old-world safari elegance rooted in the legend of 'Jock of the Bushveld' by Sir Percy FitzPatrick. Think thatched roofs, reed walls, indigenous Zulu and Shangaan cultural touches, riverside boma dinners, and a genuine gold-rush-era atmosphere. Not flashy. Deeply authentic.

Why It Matters
South Africa's first private safari concession inside Kruger National Park. Exclusive traversing rights over 6,000 hectares with zero other vehicles means game drives feel genuinely private. The Sala sleep-out option — drifting off on an outdoor day bed above the riverbed with the sounds of the bush — is something few lodges in Kruger can match.
Jock Safari Lodge sits in the southern end of Kruger National Park, at the spot where the Mitomeni and Biyamiti rivers converge. It was the first private concession ever granted in the park — that history still shapes everything here. The lodge runs under 6,000 hectares of exclusive traversing rights, meaning no other vehicles in your game drive area. Two distinct stays to choose from: the 12-suite Main Jock Lodge with riverbed views and private plunge pools, or the exclusive-use Fitzpatrick's At Jock, a 3-suite villa for up to six adults with its own chef, ranger, and vehicle.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Twice-daily guided game drives in open vehicles, morning and late afternoon, across Jock's exclusive 6,000-hectare private concession. No other vehicles share the traversing area. Rangers are highly experienced and take guests off-road on exclusive routes. Sundowners in the bush are served at a scenic vantage point. All game drive beverages and snacks are included in the rate.
The Kruger's southern region hosts a tremendous diversity of bird species. Guides are knowledgeable on birdlife. The lodge's tranquil atmosphere and riverside setting make it ideal for observing species not easily spotted elsewhere in the park.
A uniquely Jock experience during the rainy season (roughly November–April). The confluence of two rivers creates exceptional amphibian diversity. Rangers guide guests on nocturnal explorations to spot dozens of different frog species.
On-foot guided walks through the concession, led by qualified rangers. Walking allows closer observation of flora, fauna, and smaller wildlife that game vehicles miss. Children under 12 are not permitted on walking safaris.
Guided interpretive walks and drives focused on the remarkable botanical diversity of the Kruger's southern region. Includes ancient Bushmen rock art nearby. A strong educational component — rangers share detailed knowledge of plant species, animal behaviour, and the ecosystem.
Rangers lead star-gazing sessions, sharing stories of the Southern African night sky. The remote location inside Kruger means virtually zero light pollution — one of the better night-sky experiences in the region.
A dedicated children's programme at Fitzpatrick's At Jock for guests of all ages. Includes outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and a Mini Chef experience. Complimentary child minding is offered during game drive hours. Children from 0–5 years old are welcome only at Fitzpatrick's (not Main Jock Lodge).
Nearby (not on the concession itself). A championship golf course set within the African wilderness. Innovative design keeps it naturally protected from wildlife straying on the course. Guests can arrange a round through the lodge.
Each Main Jock suite has an outdoor Sala — a screened, tented day bed on the private deck above the riverbed. Guests can opt to spend the night sleeping outside under the stars, falling asleep to actual wildlife sounds. An unusual add-on that frequently becomes the highlight of a stay.
