Jules César
Theatrical, maximalist luxury. Haute-couture Provençal — bold Lacroix colour palettes layered onto centuries of convent architecture. Grand but not stuffy, with a very French sense of artistic flair.

Why It Matters
Christian Lacroix's 2014 total redesign transformed a genuine 17th-century Carmelite convent into one of the most visually distinctive hotels in southern France. The combination of real monastic heritage, couture interiors, and a serious cloister garden gives it a character that chain hotels can't manufacture.
A 17th-century Carmelite convent completely remade by Christian Lacroix in 2014. Walk through the door and you're straight into a maximalist, Provençal fever dream of bold colour, theatrical pattern, and artistic frescoes. The 52 rooms span three design themes — Lacroix, Provençale, and Monacale — ranging from tight 15 m² Classic rooms to sprawling 40 m² Lacroix Suites with super king beds. The cloister gardens are genuinely beautiful, the Cinq Mondes spa sits under ancient monastery vaults, and the Lou Marquès restaurant draws both hotel guests and Arles locals in equal measure.
