Jumby Bay Island
Barefoot ultra-luxury with a strong conservation conscience. Think colonial British Caribbean aesthetics updated by Brazilian designer Patricia Anastassiadis — rattan, pale wood, navy and cream — without feeling fussy. It's the kind of place where Taittinger flows poolside at noon and no one thinks twice about it.
Request a wake-up call timed to the turtle egg-laying or hatching when visiting June–November — staff will alert you to the precise moment.
Why It Matters
One of the very few resorts in the Caribbean that occupies an entirely private, car-free island accessible only by the hotel's own yacht. The Jumby Bay Hawksbill Turtle Project — the world's longest-running privately funded turtle conservation program, active since 1987 — is embedded in the resort experience. The entire island has been homeowner-owned since 1998, adding an unusually tight-knit residential community feel alongside the hotel operation.
A 300-acre private island two miles off Antigua's northeast coast, Jumby Bay is fully all-inclusive and car-free — you get around by bike or golf cart. The resort manages 40 cottages and suites alongside privately owned villas and estate homes, all under the Oetker Collection umbrella since 2017. No day trippers, no vendors on the beach, no car noise: just three white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and the occasional Black-Headed Persian sheep wandering past your terrace.
