Japan's first JW Marriott opened in Nara in July 2020, sitting squarely between Nara Park and the ancient Heijo Palace Site. It's a 6-floor modernist building — low-slung by design to respect the city's strict height guidelines — with interiors that lean heavily on warm earthy tones and deer motifs, a nod to both the Wakakusa Yamayaki fire festival and Nara's famous sacred deer.
