Kókkini Porta Rossa
Intimate and richly atmospheric. Stone walls, hand-picked antiques, vibrant art, and Ottoman architectural details sit alongside rainfall showers and complimentary Greek spirits. More cultured friend's home than commercial hotel.
Book the pre-arranged private transfer (€50 from airport, €20 from port) — regular taxis drop you 150m outside the walled city and you drag your bags the rest
Why It Matters
One of the smallest and most-lauded hotels in Greece. Michelin Key recipient. The building dates to around 1340 and was the knight's residence commanding St John's Gate. Each suite is named after a former inhabitant — Greek, Turkish, and Jewish — honoring the layered multicultural history of the house. Only six suites. Owners Nikos and Angela run the whole place and know every guest personally.
A 14th-century knight's residence right at the entrance to Rhodes' UNESCO-listed Medieval Town, carefully restored by a local family into a six-suite adults-only boutique hotel. Every detail has been sweat over: Frette linens, Coco-Mat mattresses, a fragrance bar, and a pillow menu with six options. Rates start around €444 a night. The Michelin Guide awarded it a Michelin Key, calling it an amateur production in the best possible sense — made out of love, not obligation.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel coordinates rental cars to be delivered directly to St John's Gate (200m away), so guests never have to navigate the airport car rental process on arrival day.
Bicycles are used within the hotel for carrying luggage and are available for guests to explore the walled Medieval Town, where cars are not permitted.
Nikos and the team prepare a tailored daily itinerary for each guest, printed on a map with their own notes. The tablet web app also pushes updated recommendations and GPS routes. This is probably the single most-praised element of the stay — guests consistently say Nikos transformed how they experienced Rhodes.
The hotel arranges guided tours of the Medieval Town, Palace of the Grand Master, and beyond through vetted local guides. Priced separately.
A curated library focused on Rhodian history, architecture, and Greek culture. Board games and card decks also available in the shared salon.
Paris, Nikos and Angela's son, plays jazz piano for guests in the garden or lobby salon on suitable evenings. Informal and unhurried, it's part of the evening drinks ritual.
Boat trips, day sailing, and powerboating excursions can be booked through the hotel's concierge via endorsed professionals.
The hotel can arrange scuba diving through local certified operators.
