Kástu by Pajta
Modern-minimalist forest cabin retreat. Raw wood everywhere, floor-to-ceiling glass, a bed on a gallery level looking up at the stars. Think 'landscape furniture' rather than hotel. Architecture-led, nature-driven, Michelin-starred dining at its core.
Transport between the cabins and Pajta restaurant can be arranged — useful after a 9-course tasting menu with wine pairings
Why It Matters
Hungary's most remote One-MICHELIN-Star restaurant now has its own accommodation. The cabins and the restaurant share the same award-winning architect, the same ethos, and the same insistence on local Őrség produce and craftsmanship — handmade ceramics, Hetés-pattern textiles, foraged ingredients. Pajta also holds the MICHELIN Green Star (2025) and was named Dining Guide Restaurant of the Year 2025.
Pajta the restaurant came first — a One-MICHELIN-Star, MICHELIN Green Star operation run by Flóra and Ferenc Kvasznicza out of a former barn in Őriszentpéter. The seven Kástu cabins arrived in 2023 to complete the picture: two-story wooden lodges, each 32 sqm, designed by Ybl Prize-winning architect Gábor U. Nagy and planted in a row along a mowed forest meadow about 1km down the road. The whole setup is adults-only, deeply quiet, and built around a single idea — slow down completely.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Well-marked cycling routes through the national park. The terrain looks flat but is gently undulating, making it accessible to most riders. Bikes can be rented or brought.
The property recommends (and can advise on) local excursions: the Árpád-era church in Velemér, the Pityerszer Skanzen open-air museum, Lakes Borostyán, Hársas, and Vadása, a local buffalo reserve, the Őriszentpéter farmers' market, pumpkin seed pressing, and cheese and chocolate tasting in the region.
The centrepiece of the Kástu experience. Guests walk or take arranged transport to the Pajta restaurant for a 6 or 9-course tasting dinner, with optional tri-country wine pairing. Included in the standard accommodation package.
Included with accommodation. Served at the Pajta restaurant — a mix of table service and buffet. Handmade braided bread, homemade preserves, local dairy, and seasonal produce.
Planned for autumn 2025 near the stream alongside the cabins. Not yet operational — confirm with property.
Marked trails through 110,000 acres of hilly forest, meadows, and traditional villages directly accessible from the cabins. The landscape is undulating and varied. Iron Curtain remnants, watchtowers, and the Hungary-Slovenia-Austria tri-border point are all within reach.
Deer, roe deer, and other wildlife are regularly spotted from the cabin windows. The sparse human presence and adjoining forest make sightings common, especially in the afternoon.
