Kapsaliana Village Hotel
Country-chic pastoral. Stone archways, thick wooden beams, old fireplaces. Rooms named after constellations. Slow pace, genuine quiet, zero resort energy.
Book a room in the original stone village buildings — Hyades, Sirius, Lyra, or Perseus — not the newer additions behind the restaurant
Why It Matters
One of the only hotels in Greece where you are literally sleeping inside a restored historic village — with the original 1763 olive press converted into a museum lounge at its center. Recognized by Presidential Decree for High Cultural Value and awarded a Michelin Key in 2025.
A real 17th-century Cretan village — abandoned by the 1950s, bought house by house over decades by architect Myron Toupoyannis, and painstakingly restored into one of the most singular hotels in the Mediterranean. Twelve original stone structures plus a handful of newer additions surround a working olive oil museum, a functioning church, and a flower-flanked pool. The Greek government designated it a place of 'High Cultural Value' by Presidential Decree. It earned a Michelin Key in 2025 and holds membership in Historic Hotels of Europe.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Join the hotel's gardener for hands-on agro-activities: harvesting olives, planting vegetables, tending the orchard. A genuine farm experience, not a performance.
Open-air cinema experience in an atmospheric spot surrounded by trees and flowers, under the Cretan night sky. Classic films and blockbusters. Bring a cocktail from Lemonies bar and a snack.
Hotel provides maps and guided walking/running routes through its private orchards and surrounding mountain trails. Staff will drive you to a trailhead and you walk back — the 4km return from Arkadi Monastery is the classic route.
Regular tastings of local Cretan wines and the hotel's own olive oil production. A good way to understand the land around you.
The 1763 olive press at the heart of the village has been converted into a museum. Original press equipment and pitharia (clay storage vessels) are on display. Free for guests — just wander in.
Open-air yoga sessions with a specialist instructor. Sunrise or sunset options. Runs on Tuesdays; book in advance — limited spots.
A two-hour lesson in the organic garden kitchen: tour the orchard, harvest seasonal ingredients, and cook traditional Cretan recipes over a wood fire before sitting down to eat what you made. Runs on Fridays; advance booking essential.
Seasonal outdoor pool measuring 6x16m, flanked by flowers. Sun loungers, pool towels, and the Levanda poolside bar. No need to leave — snacks and drinks come to you.
