Kasbah Tamadot
Romantic, antique-laden Moroccan fortress with genuine Berber warmth. Heavy on atmosphere — tiled courtyards, lantern-lit corridors, rooftop dinners. Not minimalist or contemporary. The decor leans maximalist-eclectic, mixing traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with Far Eastern and Indian antiques collected by the property's former owner.

Why It Matters
Awarded three Michelin Keys in 2025. Named on the Condé Nast Traveller Gold List 2025, Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice 2025 (#5 Best Hotel in Northern Africa and #5 in Africa), TIME World's Greatest Places 2025, and Travel + Leisure World's Best multiple times. The property closed and was rebuilt from the ground up following the devastating September 2023 Atlas Mountains earthquake, reopening in July 2024 with a new restaurant (Asayss) and six entirely new three-bedroom riads. Partnership with the Eve Branson Foundation has supported Berber community artisans and education since 2005.
Sir Richard Branson's mother spotted this walled kasbah estate while her son was mid-balloon flight. He bought it. That's the origin story, and it sets the tone for everything here: spontaneous, grand, a little theatrical. The former home of Italian antique dealer Luciano Tempo, every corridor and courtyard is stacked with objects from India, Africa and the Far East. Set an hour from Marrakech in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains near the Berber village of Asni, it now has 43 rooms spread across the main building, ten luxury Berber tents perched on the hillside, and six brand-new three-bedroom riads added after a major rebuild following the 2023 earthquake. All staff are Moroccan, and many come from the surrounding Berber villages.
